Test Objective

To measure the thermal insulation capability of the Emergency Survival Blanket (Blanket) in maintaining the core body temperature of a human body cavity under low-temperature conditions. Using a manikin test method, the average regional thermal insulation of different body parts (including chest, abdomen, back, etc.) is calculated to evaluate the life-support capability of the Blanket.


Test Method

The artificial climate chamber was set to a temperature of 10°C ± 0.5°C and a relative humidity of 30%. The skin temperature of each zone of the manikin was set to 35°C ± 0.5°C. The manikin was fully wrapped with the Blanket, with the head and feet sealed to prevent air exchange. The surface skin temperature of the manikin was maintained constant for ≥ 25 minutes, and test data was recorded.


Calculation of Average Cavity Thermal insulation:

Based on the parallel calculation method specified in ISO 15831, the average thermal insulation of each zone was calculated according to the regional surface area and heat dissipation power.

Test Steps

1. Set the simulated environmental climate chamber to 10°C. Place the manikin and the Blanket in the test environment for 12 hours to reach equilibrium.

2. Fully wrap the manikin with the Blanket, ensuring the head and feet are tightly sealed to prevent air exchange

3. Set the full-body surface temperature of the manikin to 35°C and initiate the thermal insulation test. The manikin testing software (ThermDAC) automatically controls the temperature and records test data.


Performance Results Analysis

Both blankets helped prevent cold injury. The manikin reached a stable core temperature in about 10 minutes.


Key difference: the standard blanket made the manikin produce more internal heat to stay warm.


The Emergency Blanket Pro reached the same stable core temperature with less heat output, which means better insulation and less energy spent.
