boo boo kit for micro wounds

What is a boo boo kit?

A boo boo kit is a small mini first aid kit with medical supplies for minor wound. Such as cuts, grazes, burns, stings, etc. Boo boo kit is usually a small container or bag, not as large as a regular first aid kit. If it comes with Molle System it would be even better so you can attach it to any of your backpacks or gear.

What are the essential contents of Boo Boo kit?

The boo boo kit contains medical supplies to handle minor wounds, and you can customize it with your EDC gears. Usually, the basic Boo Boo Kit contains medical supplies as below:

1. Band-Aid Kit (Adhesive Bandages)

A Band-Aid is an adhesive bandage used for covering small cuts and injuries. It protects small cuts from dirt and bacteria.

There are different shapes of bandages. Whether for fingers, knees, or elbows, having the right shape of plaster is key. A kit that covers all bases ensures quick and effective treatment.

A Band Aid kit contains:

  • 2 x Plaster Strips (72mm x 19mm): For small cuts and scrapes on fingers or toes.

  • 2 x Plaster Strips (72mm x 25mm): Extra coverage for slightly larger wounds, providing secure protection.

  • 2 x Fingertip Bandages (45mm x 51mm): Specially shaped to comfortably cover fingertip injuries, offering flexibility and strong adhesion.

  • 2 x Adhesive Bandages (60mm x 100mm): Perfect for larger cuts or scrapes, these bandages provide maximum coverage and protection.

  • 2 x Finger Bandages 20mm x 120mm

Steps in applying a band-aid include:

  • Clean the wound with clean water.

  • Pick the correct bandage size for the wound. It will not be effective in protecting the injury if the bandage is too small.

  • Unwrap the bandage and apply it.

  • The bandage should be changed every day to avoid infection.

2. Gauze Pads

A gauze pad is a piece of gauze fabric used to protect a wound. Steps in using a gauze are:

  • Clean the wound gently with a piece of wet gauze.

  • Cover the wound with a piece of clean gauze.

  • Hold the gauze in place with tape or bandage.

3. Swabs

A swab is a piece of porous material like cotton or gauze wrapped around the ends of a short, slim stick. It is used for putting medications on a wound.

4. Thermal Blanket

Thermal blankets are used to keep the body warm in emergencies to prevent Hypothermia. The silver side could also be used to reflect light for SOS signal.

5. Medication Case

A medication case contains prescribed medications for the owner of the kit. It contains medications like Aspirin to ease minor pains, fevers and aches, and other necessary medications.

6. Burn Gel

Burns can happen when you are setting up fire or cooking some food. The first thing to do is to cool the burn with water. After cooling the burn wound, cover the wound with sterile bandage (for 1st degree burn only).

7. PBT Bandage

PBT bandage is used to secure and fix the gauze on the wound.

8. Mini Duct Tape Roll

Duct Tape is essential for outdoors no matter for medical purposes or any other purpose. It could be used to fix the gauze, splint, and even fix tent or clothes. Normally, duct tape comes with a big siz,e which is difficult for small bags. Find a small rolled one or a flat one for your kit.

Boo Boo Kit vs. Standard First Aid Kit vs. Trauma Kit

Why choose a Boo Boo Kit Over Larger First aid kits?

Boo boo kits have several advantages for everyday situations:

  • Portability: Their compact size makes them perfect for hiking, camping, travel, or shooting practice.

  • Accessibility: Small enough to keep in your pocket, purse, or glove compartment.

  • Efficiency: Contains just what you need for common minor injuries without excessive bulk.

  • Convenience: Quickly address small wounds without digging through a larger kit.

  • Complementary: Works alongside your larger first aid or trauma kit for comprehensive protection.

Remember that while boo boo kits handle everyday injuries, they're not designed for serious trauma. For complete preparation, consider having different levels of medical kits available depending on your activities.
