We travelled to the city which is next to the front line, we have our products tested, and we are unhappy with the regular survival blanket. We didn't get any negative feedback on this product before, and it was supposed to work smoothly.


During the training, we found out our regular-sized survival blankets were not meeting the needs of soldiers. They were too small (standard size is 130x210cm), barely covering an adult body, and the material was easy to tear. Standard mylar material, while lightweight, tore easily when snagged on equipment or when used on rough terrain. Once torn, the blankets lost much of their heat retention capability and became ineffective for transport.

Under stress and while wearing tactical gloves, soldiers struggled to quickly unfold and properly deploy standard blankets, wasting precious seconds during critical care moments.


Inadequate Thermal Signature Reduction

Perhaps most alarming in modern combat environments, standard survival blankets did not adequately mask infrared signatures from increasingly common thermal imaging systems, potentially exposing casualty collection points to enemy observation.


Setting New Design Objectives

Based on these critical insights, we established clear objectives for our next-generation combat survival blanket:

  1. Significantly increase dimensions to ensure full coverage of casualties with complete gear

  2. Develop tear-resistant material that maintains flexibility and light weight

  3. Engineer advanced anti-infrared properties to reduce thermal detection risk

  4. Maintain practical portability for field medics already carrying heavy loads

  5. Create a deployment system that works efficiently with tactical gloves in high-stress situations

These objectives required balancing competing priorities. A larger blanket would provide better coverage but might become too bulky. Stronger material might add weight. Enhanced IR protection could compromise flexibility. Finding the optimal balance became our engineering challenge.


Material Engineering and Selection Process

Our material development process began with testing many different configurations of reinforced mylar and alternative materials. We needed something fundamentally stronger than standard Mylar without a significant weight increase.


To validate the design, we conducted extensive testing, comparing the standard version combat survival blanket and the updated XL one under stress conditions to demonstrate the improved durability. The results were clear in the side-by-side images showing the resistance to tearing.


Dimensional Optimization Innovation

We returned and the objective was clear: Update the survival blanket that was larger, tougher, be more reliable for battlefield.


We invested to make samples, customize materials, and finally decided to make the dimensions 180cmx230cm. Not only the size ensure the complete coverage, but we also updated the material to be tear-resistant. We compared the updated blanket with regular blanket and it works much better.


Addressing the Infrared Detection Threat

Nowadays, drones are widely used on the battlefield. Drones attack casualties so they have to evacuate at night to avoid the drone attack. Nighttime visibility can be as dangerous as any physical threat. The updated combat survival blanket helps obscure heat signatures at night. We did a simple test of Anti-Infrared with our infrared camera.
